BeneCheck Uric Acid Test Strip (BK-U1)

BK-U1 is the test strip used with the BeneCheck PLUS (BK6-12M) meter to measure the level of uric acid in blood. It needs 1 µL of blood and gives a result in about 15 seconds. The measuring range is 3–20 mg/dL (0.18–1.19 mmol/L).

Key features of the BK-U1 strip

Uric acid is a waste product formed in the body when substances called purines are broken down. BK-U1 is used to measure the level of uric acid in blood. It needs 1 microlitre (µL) of blood and gives a result in about 15 seconds.

When the strip is inserted into a BeneCheck PLUS meter, the meter recognises it as a uric acid strip and switches to uric acid measurement automatically, so there is no need to select the test on the meter.

Measuring range and units

The measuring range is the span of values for which the strip can give a numerical result. For BK-U1 it is 3 to 20 mg/dL. If the uric acid level is below or above this range the strip cannot give an exact number; the user manual explains what the meter displays in that case.

For uric acid, 1 mmol/L corresponds to about 16.8 mg/dL. Some laboratories report results in µmol/L; 1 mg/dL is about 59.5 µmol/L.

Points to watch when using the strip

For a reliable result, follow the steps in the strip package insert and in the user manual supplied with the meter. The points most often overlooked are:

  • Each strip is for single use only. Do not reinsert a used strip.
  • Close the vial cap straight after taking a strip out, and use the strip without delay.
  • Do not use strips past their expiry date.
  • This strip measures uric acid only. Blood glucose and cholesterol are measured with their own strips.
  • Follow the user manual for storage conditions and coding steps.

Frequently asked questions

Which meter is the BK-U1 strip used with?
BK-U1 is used with the BeneCheck PLUS (BK6-12M) multi-monitoring meter. If you have a different BeneCheck model, check compatibility on the package or write to us.
Which strip measures uric acid on BeneCheck PLUS?
Uric acid is measured on BeneCheck PLUS with the BK-U1 strip. Blood glucose needs the BK-G6 strip and total cholesterol the BK-C2 strip.
How long does a uric acid measurement take?
A uric acid measurement with the BK-U1 strip takes about 15 seconds.
How much blood is needed?
1 µL of blood is enough — far less than an ordinary drop of blood.
How do I convert the result to µmol/L?
Multiply the result in mg/dL by about 59.5. For example, 6 mg/dL is about 357 µmol/L.
Where can I obtain the BK-U1 strip?
