Abbott NycoCard — READER II and Rapid Test Menu
NycoCard is a point-of-care testing platform that runs four different rapid tests on a single reader. We supply and sell the reader and the full range of test kits.
The NycoCard READER II
The NycoCard READER II is a compact, battery-capable instrument that reads all NycoCard tests. It works on a reflectometry principle and consists of two parts: the instrument box housing the calculating unit and a reader pen that detects the signal. Because no separate device is needed per parameter it saves both space and investment in smaller units.
Being portable, it suits primary care centres, outpatient clinics, emergency units and field work where no fixed laboratory space is available.
- Four tests on one platform
- Roughly 20 × 17 × 7 cm, 0.54 kg; battery-capable
- Whole blood, serum or plasma depending on the kit
- Results within minutes
Test menu
The test menu is determined by the kit in use. All four parameters run on the same reader.
NycoCard CRP
Quantitative C-reactive protein in whole blood, serum or plasma
NycoCard HbA1c
Quantitative glycated hemoglobin in whole blood
NycoCard D-Dimer
Quantitative D-Dimer measurement
NycoCard U-Albumin
Microalbumin in urine (microalbuminuria)
Who it suits
NycoCard does not replace central laboratory testing; it complements it where a decision is needed without waiting for the sample to reach a laboratory.
- Primary care centres and outpatient clinics
- Emergency and intensive care units
- Diabetes monitoring programmes
- Mobile health services without a fixed laboratory
- Veterinary clinics and small-scale units
Test kit and consumable supply
On POCT platforms continuity lives in the test kit. If kit supply is interrupted the instrument becomes unusable, so we set up scheduled shipments based on your consumption.
Kits carry expiry dates. We size stock against your consumption rate and track lot numbers and expiry together with you.
Frequently asked questions
- Which tests can the NycoCard READER II run?
- Four tests run on a single reader: CRP, HbA1c, D-Dimer and U-Albumin. The menu is determined by the kit in use; no separate device is needed per parameter.
- Which sample types does it work with?
- It depends on the kit. CRP runs from whole blood, serum or plasma; HbA1c from whole blood; U-Albumin from urine. Most tests require no centrifugation, which shortens sample preparation.
- Is the instrument portable?
- Yes. The NycoCard READER II is compact and battery-capable, requires no fixed laboratory space and is suitable for field use.
- Can test kit supply be interrupted?
- To prevent interruptions we set up scheduled shipments based on your consumption. Because kits carry expiry dates, we size stock against your usage rate and track lots and expiry dates with you.
- Do NycoCard tests replace laboratory testing?
- No. POCT does not replace central laboratory testing; it complements it where a fast decision is required. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for use for the intended use and limitations.
