Veterinary Diagnostic Systems

Veterinary hematology analyzers running species-specific calibration profiles, slide preparation systems, molecular diagnostics and field meters.

Veterinary hematology is not human hematology adapted to species. Erythrocyte size, platelet distribution and leukocyte ratios differ markedly between animal species, so the analyzer must hold separate calibration profiles for each. Running animal samples on a human instrument does not give reliable results.

HORIBA's veterinary range is not limited to hematology. Smear preparation, molecular diagnostics and field measurement for herd health are part of the same portfolio, allowing a clinic to cover different needs from one supplier.

Selection criteria

Number of species supported
A small animal clinic may only need cat and dog; mixed practices and farm animal work also require horse, cattle, sheep and laboratory animal profiles. The number of profiles directly drives instrument choice.
Result time and sample volume
Where the decision is made during the consultation, turnaround matters. Micro-sampling instruments are an advantage in small animals and difficult draws; models working from 10 µL cover this need.
Number of parameters
An 8-parameter basic count covers most routine work. Where a more detailed assessment is needed, models reporting 18 parameters or upper-segment instruments with a more detailed differential are preferred.
Smear preparation and microscopy
Abnormal results require smear review. Automated slide preparation standardises smear quality and shortens microscopy time.
Molecular diagnostics and field measurement
Bench-top PCR systems are used for infectious agent screening. For herd health, pocket meters measuring calcium, potassium and urine pH support fast animal-side decisions.

Products

  • Yumizen G800h / G850h

Fully automated bench-top analyzers with Advanced Pre-analytical Sample Integrity (A-PSI). Flags potentially problematic samples to improve accuracy; 150 PT, 70 aPTT and 40 D-Dimer tests per hour.

  • Yumivet VH2500

Upper-segment hematology analyzer for veterinary clinics. Built on proven human platform technology and adapted to the hematological characteristics of different animal species.

  • Microsemi LC-712G

Compact veterinary hematology analyzer working from a 10 µL micro-sample. Delivers a result roughly 70 seconds after aspiration and takes 18% less space than previous models.

  • ABX Micros ESV 60

Open-tube veterinary hematology analyzer. Runs calibrated profiles for ten animal species, reports 8 or 18 parameters and offers a capacity of 50 tests per hour.

  • Yumivet SPS

Automated slide preparation for veterinary samples in a closed system. Offers automatic and manual staining modes; compatible with the Yumivet VH2500.

  • POCKIT Central PCR

Bench-top molecular diagnostic system combining magnetic bead nucleic acid extraction with isothermal iiPCR amplification; results in under 1.5 hours.

  • LAQUAtwin pH-22

Pocket pH meter integrating electrode, display and sample dish in one body, measuring within seconds from a single drop. Used for urine pH monitoring in cattle.

  • LAQUAtwin Ca-11C

Pocket meter developed for cow-side measurement of ionised calcium in blood, suited to field use for early detection of subclinical hypocalcaemia.

  • LAQUAtwin K-11

Pocket meter measuring potassium in whole blood, plasma, milk and abomasal fluid, taking a direct on-site reading from a single drop.

Frequently asked questions

Do veterinary hematology analyzers differ from human analyzers?
Yes. Blood cell size and distribution vary between animal species, so the instrument must hold species-specific calibration profiles. Running animal samples on a human analyzer does not give reliable results.
How many animal species can be measured?
It varies by model. The ABX Micros ESV 60 runs calibrated profiles for ten animal species and reports 8 or 18 parameters. Upper-segment models offer a wider species range and a more detailed differential.
Which instrument suits a small veterinary clinic?
Where daily sample volume is limited, a compact micro-sampling analyzer is sufficient. The Microsemi LC-712G works from 10 µL of whole blood and returns a result roughly 70 seconds after aspiration, which suits decisions made during the consultation.
Can molecular diagnostics be run in a veterinary clinic?
Yes. POCKIT Central PCR is a bench-top system combining magnetic bead nucleic acid extraction with isothermal iiPCR, delivering results in under 1.5 hours. It allows testing without sending samples to an external laboratory.
Are there field instruments for herd health monitoring?
The LAQUAtwin pocket meters measure animal-side from a single drop. The Ca-11C measures ionised calcium in blood, the K-11 potassium and the pH-22 urine pH — used particularly for metabolic monitoring in dairy cattle.
