3-part analyzers separate leukocytes into three subpopulations (lymphocytes, monocytes, granulocytes). 5-part systems report five: neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils and basophils. Because they provide a more detailed differential, 5-part analyzers are preferred in medium and high-volume laboratories.

Compact bench-top systems cover up to roughly 150 patients per day, while above 500 patients automated sample loading and redundancy become necessary. Running CRP or ESR on the same instrument also changes the capacity plan.
Compare hematology analyzersA core hemostasis menu covers PT/INR, aPTT, fibrinogen and thrombin time. Depending on the instrument class, specialty assays such as D-Dimer, antithrombin, Protein C and Protein S, and dRVVT can be added. Browse the NycoCard rangeYes. Blood cell size and distribution vary between animal species, so the instrument must hold species-specific calibration profiles. Veterinary analyzers run with separately tuned profiles for species such as cat, dog, horse, cattle and sheep.

Third-party reagents can affect measurement accuracy, quality control results and, in most cases, the instrument warranty.
