When setting up or renewing a laboratory, instruments are assessed together rather than one by one. Hematology, hemostasis and clinical chemistry are separate departments, but sample flow, quality control management and LIS connectivity are shared. A line built from one manufacturer's portfolio gives a single management logic across all three.

Selection criteria

Departmental scope
Which of hematology, hemostasis and clinical chemistry are installed at once determines instrument layout and staffing. Lines built from a single manufacturer reduce training and service overhead.
Total sample flow
What matters is total daily sample flow rather than departmental capacity in isolation. Where the workload peaks, capacity should be planned against peak load, not the average.
Peri-analytical steps
Smear preparation and microscopy are the most labour-intensive part of hematology. Automated slide preparation and digital morphology standardise this step and shorten manual review time.
Automation and middleware
Conveyor automation connects 2–6 analyzers on one line. A validation station and middleware automate result approval through rule packages and provide real-time performance indicators.
Shared quality control management
Running quality control and calibration tracking on one logic reduces documentation workload in accreditation. Shared control materials also simplify stock management.

Frequently asked questions

What is the advantage of sourcing hematology, hemostasis and chemistry from one manufacturer?
Operator training, quality control logic, the service process and reagent supply run through a single point. With different manufacturers, each instrument means separate training, a separate service contact and a separate consumable supply chain.
Is a slide preparation system necessary?
Abnormal blood count results require smear review. With manual smears, quality varies by operator; automated systems produce standard-quality smears and staining in a closed circuit and shorten microscopy time.
What does digital cell morphology do?
It digitises blood and urine samples and produces an AI-supported pre-classified report. Because the report can be accessed and approved remotely, expert review does not require being at the instrument.
At what scale does laboratory automation make sense?
Conveyor solutions connect 2 to 6 analyzers on one line and support several slide preparation systems per line. Once sample volume and peak-hour density pass a certain threshold, they replace manual transport.
